Local 1549 Delegates Meeting Report (September 2024)

Local 1549 held an in-person delegates meeting on September 18, 2024 at the NYC Seminar and Conference Center for Local 1549 delegates-only. The following is a summary of business discussed at the meeting.

  1. OPENING

    • The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, a moment of silence for members who have passed away, and a recitation of the AFSCME Code of Conduct. Local 1549 and DC37 staff were recognized thereafter.

  2. ADMINISTRATORSHIP UPDATE

    • Administrator Ryan Welles congratulated the delegates for their election and for their work in rebuilding Local 1549. He then continued to recap Local 1549’s accomplishments during the administratorship, including: adopting a new constitution, finalizing chapter elections after runoffs, electing and attending the AFSCME international convention, Labor Day parade attendance, and ongoing shop steward elections.

    • He also mentioned that Local 1549 administrators were working to extend the lease at 30 Vesey St to avoid a penalty when we move into 125 Barclay, which is projected to open in October.

    • The last update was related to AFSCME Strong goals, including new member sign-ups, VMO trainings (which are currently paused), and ongoing efforts to plug membership into the union’s work.

    • The meeting concluded with the official swearing-in of Local 1549 delegates in accordance with the AFSCME constitution.
